Emma Wilson

Emma Wilson is a mental health campaigner with experience of working on local and national projects.

With Time to Change, the anti-stigma campaign, she is a trained Co-Involvement Work, Youth Ambassador and Media Volunteer. Opportunities to dispell misconceptions surrounding mental ill health include: speaking on BBC Radio 4; BBC News and BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat. Emma has represented the Time to Change cause at panel discussions with high profile individuals including Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, CEO of Mind Paul Farmer and Chief Executive of Time to Change Sue Barker.

Emma currently attends monthly meetings with the Youth Advisory Panel for the Clinical Research Network: Mental Health, a division of the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). The purpose of these meetings is to discuss and critique prospective research proposals. Emma and three colleagues met with Chief Medical Officer, Dame Sally Davies, in 2014 to discuss the necessity of undertaking an updated Needs Assessment into youth mental health.

In early 2014 Emma spent six months designing online resources for the youth section of Rethink Mental Illness' website alongside three peers. The outcome is available to see on the charity's website.

Most recently Emma has advised West Sussex County Council on its redesign of children's emotional wellbeing and mental health services (including CAMHS).

In 2014, Emma was also involved with Healthwatch West Sussex as their Youth Engagement Officer. This role involved liaising between the public and health professionals to raise the youth voice. Emma produced a report that was widely distributed across the county on youth mental wellbeing, based on the evidence provided by young people about services in the local area.

In her free time, Emma enjoys being outdoors, discovering new veggie restaurants and keeping active.
