I have been studying Art for the last five years, beginning at GCSE. It is a subject I have always enjoyed and felt most confident in.

I am currently at the University of South Wales studying a degree in Creative and Therapeutic Arts. This was a very exciting opportunity for me, as it combines my two main interests - art and psychology. I took both Fine Art and Psychology at A Level and wished to pursue in one of these areas, so being able to do both of the things I love was an amazing fortuity, and I'm extremely grateful to be where I am now.

I enjoy exploring all kinds of mediums. Since doing my Foundation in Art and Design at Farnham UCA, I have found that the experience has really broadened my skillset and altered my way of thinking into a more sophisticated and artistic manner.

I enjoy 2D work especially because it is in my comfort zone, I love to draw and paint. Life drawing is an enjoyable activity for me as I can really appreciate the human form, and generally is my favourite subject matter.

Since starting at South Wales, I have explored new mediums such as 3D, papier maché and using tools as drawing materials. So far we have used string and tape which are perfectly good drawing materials! I feel that skills like these are important for the future when we eventually run our own workshops when we will have to adapt activities around the materials that are provided. It also benefits me as a practitioner as it is teaching me to be resourceful, and learning to use what I can, rather than what I 'need'.

I have volunteered previously with children with brain injuries and severe learning disabilities to do sensory activities. I feel that this is enjoyable and engaging for children as there are textures, visual stimuli and many different ways of implementing these techniques. It is rewarding to work with children and seeing them appreciate and enjoy the activities fulfilled for them. It is also an excellent way for them to practice motor skills in a safe and controlled environment.
