Emma Howe
Translator, Proofreader, and Language tutor in Barcelona, España
I am a highly creative Spanish/English and Catalan/English translator with excellent editorial skills.
Born in the UK, I spent much of my childhood and youth living overseas – in Spain, the US, Cameroon, as well as spells in Sri Lanka, France and Belgium.
After completing my language degree at Exeter University in 1998, gaining a BA (Hons) Spanish and French (First Class with Distinction), I moved to Barcelona to explore new avenues and have since become fluent in Catalan.
In 1999, I joined an important multinational, where I thoroughly enjoyed 15 years working in several areas: marketing, logistics, export, customer services, and also in IT. Throughout my career I have proofread, edited and translated a great many corporate and marketing materials, training manuals and business communication documents working with Spanish, Catalan, and French as the source languages.
In 2015 I decided to follow my passion and head into the world of freelance translation and content creation. My work is my craft; I do not outsource or delegate work, and will only ever deliver texts that I can truly feel proud of.
I have built a reputation as a stickler for standards, and I firmly believe that shoddy work damages our image far beyond a particular task. “Passable” is simply not good enough.
