Emma Mayerson
Emma Mayerson serves as the Program Director of the Alliance for Girls, a project of the Eva Leah Gunther Foundation, located in San Francisco, California. At only 24, Emma Mayerson is building a cross-sectional membership-based coalition that champions the leaders and voices that support tomorrow's young women. Forty organizations are members of the Alliance for Girls, which is growing every day.
"Ensuring that every girl is able to overcome social, cultural, and emotional barriers to become strong young women is a difficult job," Emma Mayerson says, "and we need a strong, diverse, and collaborative girl-serving sector to address this." Previously, Emma Mayerson served as the Development Assistant for the Women's Foundation of California. Her duties included event planning, blogging, grant research, and individual donor development. Mayerson has been a board member of Jewish Funds for Justice (now Bend the Arc) since she was only 16 years old. In 2011, Mayerson worked as a Community Organizing Resident for Bend the Arc in Los Angeles. Additionally, she has served as a Development Assistant for the Jewish Community Federation in San Francisco. In 2010, Mayerson worked at the Jewish Community Endowment Fund as a Kohn Intern. She also completed internships at the Progressive Jewish Alliance in 2009 and UNITE HERE in 2008.
She received a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, graduating cum laude. She was also inducted into the Honos Civicus Society for community service and received the Ted Shapiro Outstanding Thesis Award. While she was a student, she founded and served as the co-chair of Jumbo Janitor Alliance, whose mission is to foster communication and a sense of community among students and janitors. She successfully built a membership base of 300 students.
