Student and Teacher in ontario
Hi, I’m Emma. I’m a teacher and lifelong learner living in Ontario. I am a fan of travel, fitness, and the arts. I am also a pet-owner and love my dog like he is a human being; believe me, he is truly spoiled.
Every year, I try to travel to a new place! Here I am pictured in front of La Gran Manzana by Enrique Cabrera in ‘The Big Apple’.
I have a passion for exploring and learning new things whenever my busy schedule suits it. My teaching philosophy is heavily based on exploring our individual curiosities and developing deeper understandings of these together. In my University education, I presented a research proposal about the lived educational experiences of students with epilepsy and how education/awareness can improve the quality of their experiences at school. This interest was sparked by a close friend of mine who was living with epilepsy and my previous job as an educational assistant supporting students with exceptionalities. There are several examples in my own learning path like this, where I believe that having autonomy and choice over my what I learned about benefitted me as a student.
Additionally, education around mental health and well-being is a core aspect of my practice. As a child of somebody who lost to a struggle with mental illness, I always try to support others who need help. I am a Safe-Talk certified educator and consistently practice mindfulness and educate about mental well-being in my classrooms.
My memoir for my teaching philosophy is “Individuality and curiosity create quality discoveries”.
