Elizabeth Momot
Student in Guelph
Hi there, my name is Elizabeth and I am a third-year Biological Science major at the University of Guelph. During my time at the university I play for the women’s lacrosse team, as well as, volunteer with Let’s Talk Science. My main hobbies include staying active by playing sports and hanging out with my friends. I enjoy playing most sports however, my favourites would be hockey and lacrosse. I am very shy and introverted when I meet people at first although it does not take long for my outgoing and energetic personality to come out. I also love travelling and going on vacation, hiking, doing puzzles and taking care of my plant children.
When it comes to my educational interests I am very passionate about all fields of science. Despite being in a biological science major I actually find physical sciences of a lot more interest to me. My favourite fields to study are math, statistics and epidemiology. I enjoy these fields of science the most because I find it a lot easier and more enjoyable to understand topics than to memorize them. Many people have inspired me throughout my journey in science. However, my science high school teachers would be my most prominent inspiration. The main reason they inspired me is that they are all women in STEM who are very passionate about science. They worked hard to inspire and show every student daily how much love and passion they had for science. Without them, I might have never considered going into a science stream in university and I would not be where I am today.
Being very passionate about statistics and epidemiology my current career goal is to work in Public Health. My goal after I graduate from my undergrad is to do a Master’s in Public Health. I am very interested in this career goal because it allows me to work in a health care setting while working with statistics and modelling. I think that this is a great career for me to bring my different passions together to benefit and help the population around me.
An interesting fact that most people might not know about me is that I worked at Starbucks for two years. Many people are very intrigued when they learn that I used to work at Starbucks and I easily become everyone’s go to friend when they want to try a new drink out. My love for coffee stemmed from working at Starbucks and ever since then my favourite part of my day is enjoying my morning coffee.
