Empress Naima

Singer:

Music has always been a driving force in Empress Naima's life. Her mother is a classically trained pianist and vocalist and her father, is among many other things, a DJ and and avid collector of music by black artists from the 1930's to the present. There were always different types of music being played in her household. It was her mother who introduced her to Jazz artists such as Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington, and Nancy Wilson. Her mother also introduced her to opera. Her father introduced her to Blues and Soul artist such as B.B. King, Roy C., O.V. Wright, Ruth Brown, and Jackie Wilson.

Her paternal grandfather, Alton Valier, was a producer, song writer, DJ, and radio station program director in Houston during the 1950's and 1960's. He penned hits for Rock and Soul music legends such as Chuck Berry and Peggy Scott Adams. Naima wrote every song on her forthcoming album Soul Beautiful. She considers this album to be the beginning of her contribution to continuing her family's musical legacy.

Empress Naima is a psychic medium from the south Louisiana bayou country. She comes from a long line of wise men and women who were seers, healers, and magicians. You can say that she is the one in her generation who has "the gift". Her father, both his parents, and both of his grandmothers all have or had heightened psychic abilities so it is only natural that she continues on the path started by them.
