Emrah Çelik

Emrah Çelik is a PhD candidate in sociology at Keele University in the United Kingdom. He received his bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies at Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir in 2002, and his master’s degree in Islamic Studies at the University of Birmingham, UK in 2009 with a focus on the renewal in classical and modern Islamic thought. He worked as an editor for Kilden, a Danish publishing company. His research is on negotiation of Muslim identities, expressions, and practices in the modern secular world specifically in Turkey among university students. He has a regular column in the Turkish daily Taraf, where he contributes with articles on contemporary developments in Islamic thought, Islamism, secularism, modernity, religious movements, and reformism.
