"Even if you never stand up for yourself, you are bettering the world if you can stand up for your neighbor." These simple, yet powerful words were said to EmyJa James at a very young age by her grandmother and have molded her thought process as well as the goals she is setting up for her life. Coming from Miami, Florida, a highly diverse community, Ms. James' has always known that the world has many different shades and the importance of respectfully representing everyone. Thinking this way has lead EmyJa to discovering how she wants to contribute to today's society. Currently attending North Carolina Central University, EmyJa is a rising junior, criminal justice major with a concentration in law enforcement. She plans to become a civil rights attorney with the hopes of fighting for human rights and fighting against discrimination. She believes everyone deserves the chance to be a decent human being and one day hopes to defend those who have been denied or coerced to believe they cannot attain those basic rights. EmyJa wants to be the change she wishes to see persevere in this world. She believes one day that change will come about as it all starts with just one act of bravery and compassion.
