Evans Maina Ngure

NAIROBI, KENYA

Evans Ngure is a Kenyan multi-media fine artist passionate about recycling. His love for art began when he was a small boy. Inspired by newspaper images he would sketch cartoons and pictures of politicians. With encouragement from his dad who gave him his first assignment of drawing a car, Ngure has never looked back. He is constantly on a journey of self improvement hence innovating and discovering new styles and media as his love for experimentation is very strong. He believes that like every other artists he is a vessel of change chosen by God and has a purpose towards humanity. His style is constantly evolving as he continues to experiment each day with different media and subject matter. His work mostly will revolve around African themes past and present while also looking into the future for change. A change he says is long overdue in the African continent . He has worked in watercolour, graphite, and acrylic and oil media before.

At the moment he is using aluminium beverage can sheets as his main media. His preference towards this media apart from being green is that it is durable and it comes in glossy brightly coloured hues. His main motivation and drive behind recycling is to raise awareness towards the same and to symbolise revival, proving that you can turn trash to treasure. His paintings previously flat have been influenced by his love for mixed media. Now his paintings incorporate recycled materials to give them a whole new unique visual feel.

Ngure has no specific source of inspiration as he explores all the world has to offer. He considers inspiration divine while other inspirations come from nature, personal events and culture. One underlying factor in his works is the circle. He considers the circle has some sought of power and stability. The circle signifies completeness of life something he and everybody dreams of achieving.
