Eric Hartman is a senior higher education leader and consultant whose work has shaped how institutions approach governance, risk, student success, and organizational effectiveness. His frameworks are in active use at more than 150 universities—including a student engagement model recognized by the National Survey for Student Engagement, an enterprise risk program featured by the Association of Governing Boards, and a national blueprint for addressing interpersonal violence through Culture of Respect.

His experience spans student affairs, enterprise risk management, Title IX, campus safety, internal audit, regulatory compliance, operations, governance, and strategic planning—an unusually integrated portfolio that allows him to see institutions as whole systems rather than isolated functions.

Hartman spent 20 years in senior leadership at the University of the South, including Vice President and Dean roles, before joining the University of Denver as Chief Risk Officer. In that role, he oversees enterprise risk, internal audit, equal opportunity & civil rights, campus safety, international health and safety, policy, privacy, youth protection, and regulatory compliance—ensuring these functions are embedded in the university's strategic planning and decision-making.

Throughout his career, he has served as a trusted advisor to university presidents and governing boards on governance, strategy, and risk-informed leadership, helping institutions navigate complexity with clarity and purpose.
