I'm a freelance writer based in Seattle, where I live with my wife and daughter. I write mostly about science and the environment, and my work has appeared in Orion, High Country News, Audubon, Smithsonian, and Slate, among other places. I have a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Washington for work I did on penguin behavior at the world's largest colony of Magellanic penguins, in Punta Tombo, Argentina.
