A sixth generation Texan, I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, and in Dallas if football is a religion, then the Cowboys are the gospels. Ever since I can remember I have cheered on the Cowboys. With the triplets driven dynasty teams of the mid nineties, history lessons of Captain Comeback Rodger Staubach’s dynasty of the seventies, and Drew Pearson’s original Hail Mary reception, the Cowboys truly are sacred. The Cowboys are more than a football team they’re a way of life. They are America’s team and they mean so much to their fans, fans that really can be found in every corner of the nation.
As a little kid tossing a football around the yard I really was number eight, quarterback Troy Aikman, leading the troops down the field, and I wasn’t the only one. The passion for the Cowboys was so great little kids all over my neighborhood argued over who got to be Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, or Michael Irvin in the “Backyard Bowl.”
While the Cowboys today may be more well known as America’s Heartbreak than America’s team, they still have, and always will have, my unwavering support. Say what you will about questionable coaching and management they are still the favorite team of an entire nation, and with a lot of good pieces in place I believe it is only a matter of time before they return to NFL prominence and dynasty form.
