I am very passionate about basketball. I believe that this sport shows a lot about the individuals who play it. I myself play the position of point guard and love to pass the ball. As Magic Johnson once said "a basket makes one guy happy, an assist two guys happy." This pretty much describes my philosophy towards life. I make it a point to make sure that my individual actions have a positive effect on other people, and this in turn makes me happy as well.
I not only am passionate about playing basketball, but I like to watch and read about it as well. My favorite years of basketball were from 2004-2007. A big reason because of this was watching the Phoenix Suns play. Their Point Guard, Steve Nash, ran the "Seven Seconds or less system" which was an unheard of fast paced offense that perfectly depicted a few things that I love. First is that Nash averaged over 10 assists each year, and transformed a selfish 20 win team, into a championship contender. That is the power of the assist which can turn any selfish team into a cohesive unit--it takes two to score.
At the time I ran cross country and played basketball as well. My friends and competitors made fun of me because of this fact. Cross country was not the cool thing to do like football or other contact sports. But I learned to use the scrutiny as a way to develope a way of playing that others couldn't replicate. Because I was the shorter player on the court I could not be an asset to the team like most taller players, however I did have something that nobody else could offer--my speed. Steve Nash and the Suns inspired me. My speed added an aspect to the game that others could not replicate. I now had a weapon that nobody else could match and excelled because of this. Basketball taught me to concentrate on your strengths in order to overcome any of your weaknesses.
