Erica Borges

Radford, VA

I'm Erica... I am studying Elementary Education at Radford University. I can’t wait to have my own classroom one day :)
I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful support system and set of parents who are always there for me, I couldn’t ask for anymore. I acknowledge it and am thankful for it every day.

I have strong beliefs in equality and respect for all, every race, gender and religion. I have a passion for traveling and learning about different cultures. I love to learn and am always willing to absorb as much knowledge as I can, so that it can be spread to our future generations. I believe history and personal wisdom is the single strongest teacher of different cultures and in order to learn about ourselves, we must learn about the whole human story. I believe that we are currently living history, so reflecting on the past is essential for our success in the present and preparing for the future.

As a future educator, I am passionate about developing a classroom where diversity, tolerance and acceptance are key and where the student not only becomes globally aware but develops a desire for life-long learning. When a student enters my classroom they will be entering a place where their learning is the main focus. From the way the topics are taught to my management style, everything will be done with the students’ best interests in mind. It is my job to instill not only a love of learning in my students but also a sense of empowerment for each student to make a positive impact on the world around them. Everything that I do in the classroom supports this love and helps the students to fulfill their potentials.
I believe the best teachers are the ones who facilitate the learning process, not dominate it.

Children are our future.
