Eric Heinze
Professor Eric Heinze has worked within the Faculty of Laws at Queen Mary University of London since 1995. Here, he lectures on a number of topics within and around the focus of law and human rights issues. Prior to his academic appointment, Heinze spent much time gleaning an impressive personal academic record in law studies including but not limited to a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School where he graduated cum laude and a Doctoraat (PhD) from the Rijksuniversiteit te Leiden with highest distinction. During this time he qualified for admission to the Bars of both New York and Massachusetts and spent two years working as Attorney of Counsel at Irving & Lynch. That appointment included work on private litigation before the United Nations Administrative Tribunal.
Within Queen Mary, Eric Heinze currently holds the position of Professor of Law & Humanities, and convenes LLB courses on: Law, Justice & Ethics; Law & Literature; and Democracy and Justice. Previously, Heinze has run both undergraduate and post-graduate courses on the subjects of Jurisprudence and Legal Theory, International Human Rights Law and Public International Law. As can be seen from both his subjects’ choices within the University and the subject matter of his many books, articles and other publications.
Heinze’s publications include many books, scholarly and popular articles and chapters in various collections. Heinze writes about a variety of human rights issues and the law, including problems of hate speech, rights of sexual minorities, rights to follow religious customs and practices, children’s rights and much more. In one of his most recent publications, a book entitled The Concept of Injustice, Eric Heinze explores the relationship between justice and injustice and confronts the popular misconception that the two are necessary opposites. Instead, argues Heinze, most injustice actually arises from assumptions about justice. The Eric Heinze blog is coming soon with further details regarding some of the issues he is most passionate about and more information about the various publications he has been involved with over the past two decades.
