Ericka Tillis
Mother, Teacher, and Consultant in San Leandro, CA
Ericka Tillis has been in the Senior Assisted-Living Industry for over 16 years. As an advocate for aging citizens, Ericka has not only found ways to improve the lives of her residents, she is making an impact outside her two care homes with support of over two dozen other residential care homes.
During the COVID 19 pandemic, Ericka Tillis kept her residents and staff unscathed by the COVID-19 virus when it had been running unbridled over the senior community as well as the Black and Latino communities of Alameda County in 2020 and 2021.
Ericka Tillis has learned from her experience and made efforts to rectify problems seniors face.
In 2016 Ericka Tillis formed a laundry service when she was exposed to the number of seniors who could not properly keep their clothes clean.
In 2017 Ericka Tillis saw the disparages in transportation needs and started a shuttle van service that not only helped her residents, but referral residents who could not manage to get to their appointments relying on other county or private services.
2017 was also the year Ericka Tillis saw the difficulties many seniors experience with transitioning into a phase in their lives where the amount of material possessions accumulated were no longer needed. To help with the problem of transition and life’s clutter, Ericka Tillis founded YM&H Hauling Services to offer consulting with clutter, organization and removal of items no longer needed that could be gifted to family, donated or thrown away.
With the COVID 19 pandemic, rolling black outs and the atrocities with senior victims in the various California Wildfires in 2019 and 2020, there was a clearly delineated gap in the care and concern for our senior citizens. There was little assistance and proactive action being done to meet the needs of seniors in their own home and the digital divide that prevents them from educating themselves on emergency plans and preparedness services.
She launched a new community organization called “Better Together Communities” to educate neighbors and community members how to effectively plan for emergencies and respond with help and support of our elderly and vulnerable community members.
Ericka Tillis continues to make a difference in the lives of those he meets!!
