Eric Soroka

Aventura, FL

Graduating from William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Economics, Eric Soroka dedicated his professional career to local government. At just 24 years old, he was selected as North Lauderdale, Florida's first City Manager. During this time, Eric Soroka was responsible for transforming the city government from one run by a mayor into one run by a manager and for making significant capital improvements.

After distinguishing himself as an effective leader in North Lauderdale, Soroka went on to become the first City Manager of Miramar, Florida. In his five years there, he decreased the city's budget deficit and spearheaded a financing program that enabled improvements to the water and sewage systems. Having successfully demonstrated his abilities as an executive to establish systems and infrastructure in those two cities, Eric Soroka was appointed to oversee yet another nascent commission-manager form of government in Aventura, Florida, in 1996.

Soroka continues to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of Aventura. As its first City Manager, he runs the city's day-to-day administrative affairs and implements policies established by the City Commission. These responsibilities include supervising 173 full-time employees, developing and proposing annual budgets, and preparing reports concerning the operations of city departments, offices, boards, and agencies.

In September 2002, the International City/County Management Association recognized Eric Soroka's professional accomplishments by awarding him its Credentialed Manager designation. Thereafter, he supported major construction projects such as the City of Aventura's Government Center and Community Recreation Center. In the past year, Soroka reported on capital improvements that included parking expansion, road resurfacing, and decorative street lighting. Under his leadership, the city has undergone extensive growth and progress.
