Eric Wieberg
Eric Wieberg is in his second year as Director of Strategic Communications at the South Atlantic Conference. He is responsible for managing all public and media relations, digital and social media, championship media coordination, awards and publications for the SAC, along with strengthening the conference's marketing strategies. He is also the on-site administrator for the SAC Baseball Championship.
In his first year at the SAC, Wieberg oversaw a comprehensive redesign of the conference's website and enhanced the league's social media presence to encompass multiple platforms. He also shifted the SAC's communication efforts towards a greater focus on the student-athlete experience through mediums including blogs and feature stories.
In addition, Wieberg developed the SAC's first-ever strategic communications plan.
Wieberg came to the SAC from the NCAA National Office as a member of the Division I Men's Basketball staff and the NCAA Postgraduate Internship program. He performed a variety of duties associated with planning and operating the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championships, with a primary focus on media coordination for the event's 13 preliminary-round sites and the Final Four. In addition, Wieberg provided project management support for the 2011 Final Four "Tyler's Court" community initiative, developed resources for the championship's selection, seeding and bracketing process, and helped operate the NCAA's mock selection programs. He also served on project teams for the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar and Final Four Career in Sports Forum.
Prior to joining the NCAA staff, Wieberg earned his Master of Education degree in sport management from the University of Texas. While at Texas, he worked in the Longhorn Foundation -- UT's athletic development arm – performing a variety of fundraising and event planning duties.
Wieberg graduated in 2008 with his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Kansas, where spent four years as a student assistant in the university's athletic media relations office. Wieberg also served as a media coordinator for the 2007 Big 12 Tennis Championship and assisted the Big 12 at multiple football and basketball championships during his time at KU.
While a student at Kansas, he also completed a summer internship at the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in Kansas City.
