Mother, X-Ray, and clinical coordinator in Douglasville, Georgia
Greetings! I’m Erika and my most important jobs are being a mother and wife. Aside from that I am the Clinical Coordinator of Radiologic Technology at West Georgia Technical College, am a lifetime student, and currently live in Douglasville, Georgia. I am a fan of coffee, reading, traveling, and baking. I’m also interested in travel and singing.
In my field of study, we learn about the importance of radiation safety and how to protect ourselves and most importantly patients.
Unfortunately, Georgia is one of the few states that do not require licensed medical imaging professionals. At facilities that hire unlicensed medical professionals such as doctor offices, urgent care facilities, and pain clinics, patient safety is neglected due to untrained personnel overly exposing patients to radiation or creating undiagnosable images. This is a patient care and ethical issue that does not need to happen and can be stopped with proper legislation that would require all medical imaging professionals to have a state license.
