Imagine it: a brief glance, a coffeehouse conversation, a late nigh walk, a penetrating question, a deep promise, a lifetime of interaction.

Whether it’s following a brief exchange, or after years of relations, suddenly you awaken in the moment; the moment where you become aware that your life will never be the same because of that person. That moment comes and goes for many people.

Erika Lynn is a student of those moments. She is deeply concerned about human relationships and how they affect our beliefs about ourselves, our community and our world. Having grown up in a home that took in foster children, Erika has felt the impact that one unlikely stranger can have upon a person’s life. To an outsider, the foster child seems like the person that is impacted, but in reality Erika Lynn writes about how we affect each other in deep and meaningful ways.

Because of her deep rooted ties to her foster siblings, her former inner city students, her current mentor relationships and her tendencies to have heart-to-hearts with New York City’s downtrodden on park benches, she is especially concerned with characters who, despite being marginalized, possess a firey hope that transforms and transcends their impact over all social and economic boundaries.

Erika Lynn is a poet, a teacher, and most importantly an advocate for positive social change through her writing. Her stories are based on true feelings and experiences and they lead readers to personal and societal revelations that will leave them influenced beyond their reading experience.

Erika Lynn currently attends The New School as a candidate for an MFA in Creative Writing For Children. She currently resides in Long Island, New York with her parents and her seven-year-old adopted brother.
