I am Erika and I am a left handed girl living in a right handed world. I don't think I realized how much of a nuisance being left handed could be until I sat down in nearly every single class on my first day and hunched over the desk awkwardly positioning my body to the right so I could write properly. I've coped with right handed materials but in kindergarten most of my snowflake cut outs turned into butchered and jagged triangles. For a period of time my parents tried to make me right handed but even they grew tired of my awkward gestures and my food ending up on the floor because I couldn't get my fork into my mouth. At this point they probably just thought I lacked all aspects of coordination. So, obviously, being a leftie gets a bad rep. Did you know that scientists claim that lefties die sooner than righties because lefties are generally more accident prone? Imagine that. Despite my whole family’s doubt about me learning how to drive stick shift because I am left handed, I showed them that left handed people do it better. Even though faced with this adversity, its safe to say being left handed has not hindered me from being a great person.
