Erik Shapiro hails from the tiny artist colony of Roosevelt, NJ, nestled in the woods, miles from anywhere normal. In grade school Erik studied yarn spinning, ceramics and Mandarin Chinese, which left no time for such frivolous time-wasters as learning cursive, a skill he still doesn’t possess.

After graduating from Dickinson College with a degree in Comparative Religion, he had a massive panic attack, having just realized that he had graduated with a degree in Comparative Religion. Not knowing what else to do, Erik moved out to LA to become a sitcom writer.

Erik has been staffed on It’s Like, You Know…, Ladies Man, So Little Time and Yes, Dear. He has also developed with NBC, Touchstone TV, Sony, MTV, 20th Century Fox, POW! Entertainment, Popular Arts Entertainment and A&E.

In 2010, Erik’s life changed forever. He had a freak accident, which left him disabled. He now uses a wheelchair for mobility, or if he’s trying to look hip, a walker for short distances.

He is currently working on adapting his pilot "You're Really Not Helping" into a full stage production which recently had a successful reading on Broadway. "You’re Really Not Helping" is based on his true life experience of going kicking and screaming into the world of disability, a world you cannot control.

Now, after much struggle, Erik finally embraces who he is. He currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife, four kids (boy, girl, boy, girl), a dog (boy) and a cat (girl). He enjoys the symmetry.
