My name is Erin King and I am 21 years old. I am a senior at Frostburg State University studying Early Childhood Education. Before attending Frostburg, I was a student at Garrett College for two years. During my first year there, I spent many hours studying to be a dental hygienist. Although I always wanted to become a teacher, I thought that a career in the health field would be more profitable and I would have a better chance of finding a job after college. After doing some “soul searching,” I determined that money was not everything and that I needed to switch my major to education- I am so happy that I did!

After passing Praxis 1 and spending several hours in different classrooms (Head Start and 5th grade), I most definitely feel like teaching is my “calling.” By helping and teaching children, I feel like I am doing my part in this world. It is so exciting to see a child learn and grow.

This semester, I have large goals. As a future teacher, I plan to use this time to learn as much as possible from my instructors at Frostburg, my mentor teachers, my colleagues, and my students. I plan to take every assignment seriously and use this time to be a “sponge” that absorbs knowledge. Up to this point, I believe that Frostburg State University has trained me well and I look forward to growing even more the following two semesters. I am so thankful that I have this opportunity to learn how to become a responsible, respectful, professional, caring, prepared, and knowledgeable educator. I cannot wait to have my own classroom one day and to be able to make a difference in my students’ lives.

When I am not in school, I love to go bike riding and hiking. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also love taking my dog "Boomer" for walks.

After graduation, I hope to find a teaching job. Although jobs are limited at the moment, I will continue to have a positive attitude. On July 25, 2015, I will be marrying my best friend. This upcoming year is going to be very exciting for me and I am thrilled to see what the future holds!
