Project Manager in Seattle, Washington

Support my charity

I am a Project Manager from Seattle, Washington. Long-time volleyball player and coach, avid knitter, and die-hard Seahawks fan. One of my biggest passions is volunteering and advocating on behalf of refugees and other vulnerable immigrant populations. I first became involved with these issues while living in the Netherlands and Belgium over 17 years ago. While there, I met many refugees and asylees from all over the Middle East and Africa who had fled violence and persecution in their home lands and were desperately searching for a new life in Europe. I heard stories of horrendous hardships, tragedy, war, and death, but was awestruck by their determination and unwavering faith in a better tomorrow.

Currently, I am a member of the GenR Seattle Executive Leadership Committee. GenR—short for Generation Rescue—is a group of young, influential humanitarians who have joined forces with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to help people survive conflict and disaster and rebuild their lives.

The IRC provides opportunities for refugees, asylees, victims of human trafficking, survivors of torture, and others immigrants to thrive in America. Each year, thousands of people, forced to flee violence and persecution, are welcomed by the people of the United States into the safety and freedom of America. These individuals have survived against incredible odds. In Seattle and other offices across the country, the IRC works with government bodies, civil society actors, and local volunteers to help them translate their past experiences into assets that are valuable to their new communities.

The IRC in Seattle has been in operation for over 40 years and has helped thousands of refugees in our community. In 2016 alone, the IRC in Seattle welcomed 771 new refugees from Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, DRC, Burma, Syria and many more countries. They provided newcomers with housing, furniture and other essentials, case management, community orientation, and access to social services.

In my role as GenR Secretary/Treasurer, I spearhead our efforts around donations and annual corporate and individual sponsorships. One of the most meaningful ways GenR supports the work of the IRC is by fundraising on behalf of their clients.
