The first real job that I can remember wanting was “novelist.” It was 2005, I was 9 years old, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had just been released. While I tore through those pages, I would tell anyone who would listen that I was going to be just like JK Rowling when I grew up. In the years that followed, my interests would waver briefly- I spent a month interested in robotics and coding, a brief time thinking about law, and two beautiful weeks wanting to be an astronaut before I realized three things: you need perfect eyesight to be an astronaut, I have glasses, and space scares the bejesus out of me. Throughout my many whims, I kept returning to writing, though it may have finally settled on a different form: television and film. When I said I wanted to be a novelist, what I really meant was that I wanted to tell stories.
