Erin McKay
Student and Artist in Guelph, Ontario, Canada
Hi, I’m Erin. I’m currently a student living in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. My major is Biological Science and I’m in my third year now living with 3 of my good friends in our cute little bungalow. My main career goals for the future are to either pursue fast-track nursing at McMaster University, or earn a master’s degree in occupational therapy. Picking a job was always difficult for me, and I only recently decided on the path I wanted to choose. Originally, as a kid I always wanted to grow up and become an astronaut. This eventually changed to wanting to become either a vet or an interior designer. I always love to give to others and help them - this paired with my love of learning biology made choosing nursing a bit easier. I am extremely dedicated to my studies and work hard to achieve the goals that I set for myself. While I do take the time for school, I also enjoy going out with my friends and venturing to new places and trying new things with them. I really love travelling and hope to see more of the world in the future. I adore my 2 pet cats, and I often get jokingly referred to as the “cat lady” of my friend group.
I am the youngest of 2 daughters in my family and am from Polish descent on my mother’s side, while my father’s side is Scottish. We may argue most of the time but are very close and loving towards each other. My family lived in our hometown, Aurora, when my sister and I were young kids, until my mom and dad divorced. My mom stayed in Aurora until I moved out to university, while my dad still lives in the house he moved into after they split. I often go back to visit him, and my mom who now lives in Toronto. During the summer I live in Aurora with my dad and have a job cutting grass and landscaping for the town. It’s a fun job with plenty of time spent outside, and this year will be my 3summer with them.
Other interests of mine include reading and painting/sketching. I mostly enjoy reading about science fiction stories and paint fairly often, mainly as a stress reliever but also for my own interest. I assume my artistic flare was given to me by my mother, who is an interior designer, and was the reason I became interested in the career as a young girl. To further expand my career interests, I also (not so surprisingly) wanted to become a police officer like my father. It just goes to show how indecisive I was as a kid, and even now as a grown woman!
