Erik Johnson

I study public address and democratization, focusing on Ghana. My dissertation looks at traditions of Ghanaian political leadership from independence to today as defined by the figures of Kwame Nkrumah and J.J. Rawlings. Other ongoing research projects include an ethnographic media study of call-in radio shows in Ghana and the transcription and translation of oral song practices on Ghanaian university campuses. I'm a dog person, but I wouldn't call myself "anti-cat." I live in Santa Barbara, CA. I also do stand-up.

P.S. I'm currently writing an essay that centers on Kwame Nkrumah's "Midnight Speech."
