I lead a chamber in public and constitutional law, human rights and family law in Colombo.
My work also involves law reform and human rights advocacy, in the areas of human rights and counter terrorism, protection for victims of torture, family law reform, addressing gender based violence including domestic violence and female genital mutilation, advocating for a people’s land policy, promoting plantation workers rights, promoting human rights compliant legal frameworks for the non governmental sector and promoting a feminist perspective on economic justice for Sri Lanka in the context of the economic crisis.
I am a co-founder of the Muslim Personal Law Reform Action Group (MPLRAG), and am a founding member of the Feminist Collective of Economic Justice (FECJ). I also serve on the Boards of the Women's Resource Centre, Kurunegala and Muslim Women's Research and Action Forum, Colombo.
In 2008, I was awarded the Chevening Scholarship to read for an LLM at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and in the fall of 2023 was a Fellow at the Program on Law and Society in the Muslim World of the Harvard Law School.
