Erol Onel

Erol Onel, MD, guided clinical research and medical information for Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc., from 2008 to 2015. At the New Jersey firm, he led the medical contributions to the regulatory approval efforts centered on the firm’s non-opioid pain drug. Dr. Erol Onel was also part of a team that provided medical text and general guidance for Pacira’s successful initial public offering.

Experienced in all phases of drug development, Dr. Onel has helped such drugs reach market as EXPAREL, a bupivacaine liposome injectable suspension for postsurgical pain. In addition, he worked on the development of the female sexual dysfunction drug flibanserin (Addyi).

Outside of his pharmaceutical activities, Dr. Erol Onel has served as an assistant professor of urology at Tufts University and the associated facility Tufts-New England Medical Center (now Tufts Medical Center). As head of the Division of Andrology and Sexual Dysfunction there, he established an andrology laboratory and guided the urology resident training program. Further, he twice earned Teacher of the Year distinction.
