When did you know you wanted to be in the hair business? I grew up in Ottawa and was ‘the friend’ that did everyone’s hair and make-up. I even used to cut and use my markers to colour my dolls hair as a child. I should have known then, It was a natural outlet. However, in high school I wanted to be a psychologist – a child-life specialist. It wasn’t until I apprenticed at a salon as part of a co-op program that I considered being a hair stylist, and this placement solidified the idea.
I was hired to work at a salon run by an incredible woman – she was a mentor and inspiration. She was very artistic, amazing at her craft and used her skills to give back. As an experienced and independent woman, she encouraged and supported advanced training and made great efforts to share her knowledge. She not only made me realize that I could combine my love of being creative, psychology and helping people feel good about themselves, but also inspired me to use my skills to organize various cut-a-thon like fundraisers across North America. I haven’t looked back since.
In subsequent years, I worked and trained under AVEDA, Vidal Sassoon and Goldwell artists, and all the while continuing my education with ongoing courses. One of the most important things I have done as a stylist is live and work in Scotland for a year. At the time, fashion and style was ahead of Canada allowing me to explore my creativity that much more.
When did you come to Storm? What do you like about it? I came to Storm in April of 2011. I had been visiting Vancouver for 2 years on and off and was considering moving to the city. Storm always stuck out for me. I liked the design and the energy. Then I met Lisa, we totally clicked, it felt right and the team embraced me with open arms.
What is the most important human value for you? The most important value to me is honesty. I bring this value to work with me. It’s who I am & what I appreciate the most in others. I will always be honest with my clients and make sure they always leave looking great.
