I'm a writer, researcher, occasional radio DJ, audio engineer, and former musician. I hold a PhD in anthropology and history from the University of Michigan. My dissertation, "Caboclos of Nazareth: Improvisation and Renovation in the Maracatu de Baque Solto of Pernambuco," explores the historical trajectory and present-day practice of the unique Brazilian musical and poetic tradition on which this blog focuses.
