Ethan Philion is a double bassist in his last semester at Oberlin Conservatory. He performs reguarly in the Cleveland area in jazz, folk, and classical settings. Ethan is a Downbeat award winning bassist and band-leader in his final semester at Oberlin Conservatory.

Ethan musical studies began in the Chicago area on violin, but he picked up the double bass at the age of 12. In high school he performed with top Chicago area musicians like Rob Parton and Jeremy Kahn. He also performed in the State Orchestra, Orchestra Pits, and folk festivals.

In 2010, Ethan began his studies at Oberlin Conservatory under the direction of prestigious bass pedagogues such as Peter Dominguez, Scott Dixon, and Gerald Cannon. At Oberlin he performed with musicians such as Rufus Reid, The Punch Brothers, Leo Blanco, Gary Bartz, Trio Globo. Ethan currently writes for and performs with a wide range of student jazz ensembles at Oberlin, including a voice-bass duo (doublestop.net), a jazz septet (soundcloud.com/little-big-band), and a student-led big band.
