Geno Anctil
I would like to introduce myself and welcome you to the SNHU Student Veteran Blog. I would also like to congratulate you on making the decision to further your education and career goals; you are now in the right spot to have all your military affiliated questions answered. You have made a great choice in selecting Southern New Hampshire University as we have one of the best military student affairs support teams in the country as well as a career development program like no other. I’m excited for the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a productive and positive experience as I understand firsthand the transition from a military career to a civilian life style can be difficult.
My name is Geno and I am currently a Career Advisor at Southern New Hampshire University catering to students that have a military affiliation so PLEASE feel free to ask me questions you have related to academics, career advancement or VA finances. I am here to offer you my experiences as a SNHU alumni, graduate student and employee to help best serve you and your interests as a student here at Southern New Hampshire University. On top of my experiences here at SNHU, I have also served as a Navy Corpsman (Combat Medic) completing nine years of service ending in 2009 as a Second Class Petty Officer (FMF/AW). I had completed three tours in the Middle East; one of which with Marine Corps Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team in Iraq, one tour with a Search and Rescue team and lastly a tour on the USS George Washington as an Aviation Medicine Technician / SAR Corpsman.
We (SNHU) understand how Military students have many other additional needs to include re-familiarization with our institution and the terms we use to advise students as we guide you on the right path to success. Military members need a very short time for adjustment but an adjustment period is needed whether it is academic adjustment, career change or just advice on your degree plan. I am here to help you with resume building skills, interview skills as well as tasking job searching processes as you make your transition.
Later in the next couple of posts will give you a brief history of where I have been as well as what I have completed in my 9 years. Again the purpose of my blog is to answer any questions that “any” veterans might have as they transition from the structured military lifestyle to a student veteran lifestyle as well as keep you informed of the latest
