Eugene Shearer

Houston, Texas, United States

I am not just another CPA. I am an international adventurer, entrepreneur, and community servant. My resume may indicate that I am "just" a financial analyst at an oil and gas company, but over the course of the past 4 years, I have worked in over 10 countries ranging from Kazakhstan to Equatorial Guinea. I am the son of a mother from Tokyo and a father from an Iowan town of less than 500 people and I grew up in a small town in Illinois. My sense of adventure and interest in the energy industry brought me to Houston, Texas. After living here for almost 4 years, I am happy to call Texas home.

I am on the young professionals board of the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP). At KIPP, when I am not playing dodge ball with a group of second graders I am mentoring, I am actively leading the tutoring and the college preparatory activities. In 2011, my sense of community development led to Mombasa, Kenya where I worked in microfinance to help local small business owners. In Kenya, I collaborated with a friend to start a sports based youth organization.

I have also started several businesses, but my most successful one is centered around a furniture connecting device called Couch Clamp. It currently has a 4-star average rating after 100+ reviews on Amazon.

In my free time, I enjoy traveling and have been to 20+ countries and backpacked all over Europe and Africa as well as parts of Asia. But when I cannot travel, you will find me on the tennis courts and am always up for a game!

P.S. My profile picture is a picture of me with some Maasai tribesmen in Maasai Mara, Kenya. I visited a Maasai village on my way to a project in Nairobi. Believe it or not, all the tribesmen own iPhones!
