EUPASSENGER

Many thanks for taking the time to look through my blog. It’s truly appreciated!

Right, now something personal… ?

I’m in my late-20s and work for a private business in Cambridge. Despite German nationality, I’ve been living in the UK for over 8 years and feel very much at home. Not sure though I’ll stay here forever. If someone can provide me with a US Greencard, I wouldn’t hesitate to pack my bags and board a plane within the same week.

At university I’ve studied International Relations and I still enjoy buying the Sunday papers and reading about national and international affairs over a cup of coffee. My most watched TV programme are the News - however, I'm not sure this means much as I hardly watch any TV.

My other passion is reading. It’s difficult to describe my favourite genre as I tend to read anything that arouses my curiosity. On the other hand I probably prefer fiction, which challenges society and enforces complex characters onto its readers. To name a few examples, I love Jonathan Franzen, Zadie Smith, Anna Gavalda, Franz Kafka, Bertold Brecht, Stefan Zweig, Truman Capote, Paul Auster and Neil Gaiman. I’m also a big fan of Sylvia Plath’s Bell Jar, Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, Cancer Ward by Solzhenitsyn, And quiet flows the Don by Sholokhov, A Fraction of a Whole by Steve Toltz, Goethe’s Faust, Pascal Mercier’s Night train to Lisbon, Isabel Allende's The House of the Spirits, Jiri Weil’s Life with a Star, The Sea The Sea by Iris Murdoch, John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany, Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front etc.

This blog is also about travelling and yes, I do go on occasional trips around Europe and sometimes around the globe. I’m a big fan of Finland, a place I’ve already visited three times. I adore France and lived outside Paris for over three months. In future I hope to visit Scotland (can’t believe I still haven’t been there), the south of France, and West Coast USA. My job requires a substantial amount of travelling and next month I'll be off to Morocco and Oman (December 2014).

I hope the above explains a few of my emotions, tirades, joys and obsessions. Again, many thanks for your interest!
