Writer, Editor, and Translator in Germany
A professional translator, copyeditor and proofreader for 14 years who speaks English, German and Dutch, and reads Swedish, Norwegian and Danish, eurovicious is passionate about Central and Eastern Europe, Balkan pop music, and Polish cinema from the 1950s to the present day.
Self-employed since 2012, he has (as a hobby, under a nom de plume) written critically on popular music – primarily Serbian pop-folk and the Eurovision Song Contest – for the sites Balkanist, Sofabet, The Calvert Journal and Eurovisionista.
His Queer As Turbofolk series for Balkanist has been featured in Süddeutsche Zeitung, received academic citations, taught in Slavic Studies courses at universities in the U.S. and inspired a photojournalism project, while his March 2017 article on turbofolk for The Calvert Journal was translated into Serbo-Croat for XXZ Magazin. His article on 1980s Yugoslav pop-folk was published in the debut edition of Badland Magazine. His 2013 article on the history of drag in the Eurovision Song Contest and its preselections was cited in Cynthia Baker's Queer International Relations: Sovereignty, Sexuality and the Will to Knowledge published by Oxford University Press.
