My science is chemistry.
And chemistry is amazing because it explains how everything around us is composed of atoms, which then form molecules and well, before you know it I can talk hours about all these tiny, invisible particles that form our visible world!
Until now I have mastered the chemistry of materials used in architectural conservation and then I PhDed the achitecture of nanomaterials. And liquid crystals. And yes, it has been as cool as it sounds!
But very soon I realised that people around me were afraid of chemistry and could die of boredom even in the hearing of the word. 'If chemistry is amazing, how can this be?', I wondered. Apart from the obvious bad-chemistry-teacher answer, I found another one, literally lost in translation: The language of chemistry is like a foreign language. And it's not possible to like something you do not understand.
That's when I decided to become a 'science translator', to reveal the beauty of chemistry to people who didn't talk its language. While working as researcher, I spend my weekends organising and participating in science communication projects for children and adults.
I am currently living in Berlin and I am looking forward to meet other scientists and educators, to exchange ideas.
