Evan McNerney

At the young age of five, I put on my first pair of skates. Little did I know that this pair of skates would set me on a very successful and rewarding path in the world of sports, especially hockey.

Four years later my hockey team won one national championship in Las Vegas, NV and one world championship in Toronto, ON in Canada. My team went on to win three more national championships, one CA state chamionship and one more world campionship in St. Paul, MN. With the success came a great amount of struggles, especially internally between my teammates and me. Through trials and tribulations, we were able to overcome personal conflicts and work as a team to accomplish our goals. The lessons on teamwork and leadership were instilled in me at a young age and have stuck with me ever since.

After hanging up the skates, I decided to try a different sport and really test my athletic abilities by taking on tennis. Playing for my high school varsity team, I contributed to my team advancing to the Southern California semi-finals two years in a row. This experience was very rewarding as I got to work with a team while maintaining individual responsibility out on the tennis courts.

Within my first week of attending college at the University of Arizona I joined the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity. It is here where I learned the true meaning of persistence, a lesson that I will take with me in any future endeavor. I was unsure of what kind of career path I wanted to create for myself. I knew I wanted to do something in business, but what? It wasn't until I was accepted to intern for a PR agency, called Leader Enterprises, that I wanted to make sports PR my line of work. I graduated in May 2013 from the Eller College of Management (business school) with a Bachelor's degree in Management and specialization in Sports PR/Marketing. I am now ready to put my education and experience to the test in the real world.
