Evangelist “B.J.” Williams on a mission for God – Always!
Born in Detroit Michigan she began at the tender age of 8, singing around the house. When she was 10 or so, she remembers that her mother gave her a tape recorder for Christmas. Evangelist “B.J.” says; “there were six of us siblings living with our mother in a three-bedroom house with one bathroom, and I would go into the bathroom to sing and make up songs”. By the age of twelve, she began singing in the choir at church with her sister Arletha. During that time their church choir would travel to other churches around Detroit to sing. “She also remembers travelling out of the city on occasion and them sometimes being able to sing on one of the local TV Stations”.
As a child Evangelist “B.J.” knew that she wanted to be a Gospel Singer. At or somewhere near the age 12, she sang the noted song, "Precious Lord," in her cousin's kitchen and that brought her mother to crying tears of joy. Her Mom, Mrs. Thelma Williams, passed away when she was just fifteen years old, but “B.J.” never forgot the words that her mother planted in her heart. If she wanted to learn anything that was necessary to know, she would learn it at church, which is where she wasted no time running to.
After the death of her mother, she and her siblings moved to California to live with an uncle. Through it all, she still kept singing for the Lord and thanking him for all of his grace and mercy and for the gift of genuine song. “Still an ongoing tribute to him and his people, even today”
In the late '90's, she sang with a Gospel group in Oceanside, California at the Mission Church and the program was televised on a local TV channel. In 2002, she was blessed with had an opportunity to sing with the Mass Choir of San Diego, California. This was during an Award Winning Gospel legend’s Mother’s Day Celebration Concert. Who was this famous Pastor one would ask? “None other than the legendary Reverend Shirley Caesar; a memorable blessing and event indeed.”
In her own words Evangelist “B.J.” Williams graciously shared a bit more about her singing career. “There was once a great Woman of God and songstress that I looked up to as a child; and whenever her songs were played on the radio, my mother would call me in from playing so that I could hear her sing. That’s how much I admired her voice! She had the beauty of God on her and was so anointed. That woman was Mahalia Jackson. I hope and pray that,
