Evan Thornton
Ottawa
I've been building online communities since 1990, well before the advent of the World Wide Web. Today I use new media tools – blogs, microblogs, and mobile applications – to tell compelling stories about entities and organizations in fields like arts marketing, urbanism, and healthcare advocacy.
I have produced new media content for universities, NGOs, and registered charities. In the arts my social media clients have included festivals, art galleries, and professional theatres. I have often commented on social media and urbanist issues for CBC radio audiences, and I am the founding editor of Spacing Magazine's Ottawa online edition.
My new media collaborations include The Ottawa Arts Newsletter, and FullyFringed.ca. I am the co-founder of Creative Neighbourhoods Inc., a non-profit dedicated to creative use of public space, and I serve as Social Media advisor to several boards in the arts and cultural sector.
My proudest achievement is producing the online content for "Project of Heart", a Governor General's Award-winning history teaching initiative now in use at over 600 schools across Canada
