Hi! My name is Evie, I’m 23 and I am lucky enough to live and work in Edinburgh.
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2009, not long before my 17th birthday. My diagnosis followed a sensation of numbness down the left side of my body and in my feet, shortly followed by a brief but unsettling loss of sight in my right eye.
Since then I have lived with a pretty constant stream of sensory symptoms such as feelings of numbness, tightness, tingling and the all too familiar Lhermitte’s sign. I also suffer from a range of cognitive symptoms; mainly fatigue, lack of focus and depression. It was due to these symptoms that I made the decision to start taking my wellbeing into my own hands.
I have been on medication since being diagnosed and I am currently very well acquainted with Tecfidera, yet I felt that I could do more. I began looking into the effect that food and nutrition has on the body, researching holistic and natural approaches to healing. Pretty much overnight I chose to overhaul the way I eat, nourishing my mind and body with natural wholefoods and giving up anything refined or processed. Almost immediately I felt a change, I felt like a new person; excited, energised, focussed, positive…the list goes on! I don’t pretend to eat this way 100% of the time and I have a long way to go before I reach the level of physical fitness that I desire, but with The Romana Project I hope to inspire others to come on a journey to a fitter, healthier, more fulfilling way of life with me.
