I’m Stewart Bowman in Lexington, Kentucky, former newspaper staff photographer and bureau photo chief as my official title when I was more of a professional Targa Florio race car driver making a few photographs than off again racing to make a deadline.

Difference from that old Sicilian road race and me on daily assignments into Appalachia is how those guys had it easy, they didn't have a couple of coal trucks tossed in around every curve to avoid, one coming down the hill at ya, and one doing 5 MPH in your lane going up.

Being good at finding the nearest payphone was also a beneficial skill. (sorry, if you were born after 1970 it's unlikely you understand the value of or need for this particular skill).

Now I avoid driving and I hide from telephones. Life's good.
