Fabian Waechter
Physician, Teacher, and Manager in Salzburg, Austria, European Union
I like people. I am a very lucky man.
I am a Medical Doctor specialised in General Practise / Family Medicine.
I also have Masters degrees in (Clinical) Epidemiology (with a strong focus on health economics & policy) and in Business Administration. I like fancy schools and shiny certificates.
For some years I turned myself into a succesful and happy pharma mananger (@ Pfizer Inc.) in Austria and the US.
ADHD and megalomaniac as I am I have also tried my luck in teaching, civil service (even in a Ministry), science, consulting, journalism, local politics, entrepreneurship and some other things, luckily forgotten.
Recently I have refocused on clinical medicine and I am opening my own GP / Family Medicine practise in my hometown Salzburg, Austria.
I also work part time night shifts in the emergency room of my local hospital and I teach some Epidemiology and Evidence-Based-Medicine at Paracelsus Medical University.
Because that is not enough I also do some amateurish real estate stuff.
Some of my too many personal interests are: travel, reading, food, music, philosophy, technology, comedy, writing, sailing, diving („the common man‘s space travel“), golf and cats.
I know I am quite funny but my son and my wife strongly disagree.
I also truly believe I am modest, but almost anyone I know disagrees.
So obviously - and like most folks- I have zero self awareness.
7 tops quotes about myself (by others) that I really like:
* "Fabian, you are by far the laziest person who ever made it to Harvard"
* "If anyone in this class is ever going to be a tycoon, it's most likely Fabian"
*"Fabian, yesterday I thought you are very smart."
*“For the love of god, Fabian, please shut up“
* „You are like Sebastian (the Lobster) from Disney’s „The little Mermaid“, you mean really well but you always f*** up“
*My mom: „My son Fabian is like a terrier, if he wants something he bites into it and won't let go until he gets it“
*Random army doctor:“That guy, Waechter, does not have the stamina to make it to and through medical school“
Before you go and as you made it this far (respect):
- Make sure you are kind to as many people as possible as much as you can.
- Everything is going to be alright! I promise.
- “It's a funny thing about life; if you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get It.” – W. Somerset Maugham
