Rising Tempest
Student in Athens, Georgia
Every teenager has pondered about some form of passion that will define them in their upcoming future. In my case, I always had a passion for helping people in times of need, and it allows me to see the joyful faces to the people I have helped. As a result, this act of kindness makes me feel very content and happy. Ever since I was little, my imagination went wild as I wondered what type of profession could best fit me and my passion in the future. Once I transitioned from middle school to high school, I stumbled on a workshop detailing the importance of the healthcare industry. As I listened to the speakers, my love and interest for this field grew exponentially. In the end, I vowed to become a physician who can help individuals on a daily basis and see their cheerful smiles as they would exit the hospital.
However, my path is still left to be decided, and I understand the work that still needs to be done in order to attain my goal. My first encounter towards a clinical setting was participating in a high school club called “HOSA” or “Health Occupations Students of America”. At first, I was skeptical about the validity of what HOSA stands for and their commitment towards assisting students in healthcare. However, after my first meeting, I realized how dedicated the leaders of HOSA really are. Their ability to express love and dedication for the healthcare industry was very inspiring. During my first year in high school, I was able to volunteer in multiple day care centers and hospitals. This club also provided donation drives, guest lecturers on medicine, competitions, field trips, and many other opportunities. With this experience, I was able to grasp an understanding of what healthcare is all about, and I had the opportunity to learn information that I could not have found anywhere else. Over the course of four years, I was able to interact with incoming freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors who all had a drive for learning medicine and helping people. Near the end of my high school career, I also became one of the leaders for HOSA, and I helped provide the necessary tools for students to succeed in their paths towards a healthcare profession. My experiences in HOSA is something that I will treasure for a lifetime, and I will never forget the individuals who helped expand my passion to such great extents.
