The Reverend Lester V. Mackenzie is a dynamic Episcopal priest and Chief of Mission Program in the Office of The Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe of The Episcopal Church. A third-generation priest, Lester was born and raised in South Africa, deeply influenced by the Anglican Church’s work during the Apartheid era. He attended Diocesan College (Bishops) and the University of Cape Town, later advancing his theological studies at Virginia Theological Seminary, where he read for his Master of Divinity. His ordination, a deeply personal event, he was presented by his aunt, The Reverend Vanessa Mackenzie, and was officiated by both his grandfather, the late Right Reverend Edward Mackenzie, and the late Right Reverend J. Jon Bruno.

Known as a dynamic musician,” Lester’s ministry is driven by his passion for reconciliation and building bridges of hope and healing across diverse communities. His dedication is evidenced in his work with initiatives like Hands in Healing, a pioneering peace and reconciliation project led by Bishop Bruno. Throughout his career, Lester has also served in numerous leadership roles, including as a C1 Deputy to the Episcopal General Convention and Chaplain to the House of Deputies from 2015 to 2024. He has also been involved in diocesan governance, serving on the Standing Committee, the Commission on Ministry, and the Corporation of the LA Diocese.

Beyond ecclesiastical roles, Lester is committed to personal growth and supporting others through coaching. He has completed 60 hours of Coach Approach Skills Training (CAST) and is working toward ICF certification. As a coach for the Episcopal Church’s Office of African Descent Ministries and an Associate Facilitator with the Kaleidoscope Institute, he fosters conversations that promote multicultural understanding and inclusion. In 2024, he furthered his leadership training through Pepperdine University’s COMMUNITAS Pastoral Leadership Program.

Drawing upon his South African heritage, the Ubuntu philosophy, and African musical influences, Lester embodies a ministry of healing, service, and unity. His approach—"praying with mind in heart"—underscores his commitment to a ministry that resonates with peace and reconciliation, a lifelong mission to serve in the light of Christ.
