Georgia Power began a land management program to preserve the natural beauty of the region surrounding the lakes and to conserve its forests, wildflowers and water quality. In addition to generating electricity for homes, businesses and industries, the North Georgia Hydro Group provides lakes for fishing, boating, swimming and other water sports. The shorelines serve as a place for parks, picnicking, and camping.
