I am a writer, laugher, lover, hugger, daughter, teacher, friend, local food enthusiast, and obsessive Pinterest follower, and I am in love with planning special events. In January of 2015, we left city living in downtown Asheville and moved to the valley in Black Mountain, NC. Here, I live with my gorgeous soon-to-be wife, Tiffani, and our two fur babies, Sophie the Springer Spaniel and Ishtar, our Tabby cat. I grew up in Dunedin, FL and after teaching there for three years, the mountains were calling.

15 years ago, I started working in the hospitality industry as a host, then a server, and then bartender. Even after graduating college and starting my teaching career and all throughout graduate school, I worked in the hospitality industry because I love to see people having a great time. Plus, who am I kidding here? I needed the extra cash because it is no secret that teachers are paid in peanuts. After turning the big 3-0 and graduating with my M.A., I wish I could say I had an epiphany. I wish I could tell you that the clouds opened up and cherubs sounded their trumpets, while Oprah appeared to me in a dazzling gown and said to me, "Your student loans are forgiven and you are destined to live a creative life by making people happy."

The reality is that there were no cherubs or clouds.Oprah has no idea who I am and this big change arrived in the form of a quarter life crisis. I was unhappy teaching. I brought my work stress home with me and I was frustrated because I thought that getting my master's would somehow launch my career to where I was supposed to be. There were more than a few panicked episodes of, "What the heck am I doing?" and lots of tough questions that I had to ask myself and answer. I knew I had to make a change and live a more creative, and mindful existence. People thought I was crazy for changing my life's direction mid-career and I can't blame them.

After lots of soul searching, and some mentoring, I started putting myself out there. I offered to help friends plan small gatherings and pulled from my catering and hospitality experience to create some great memories for some wonderful people. I crave more of that, so I present FeatherWood to you and I can't wait to hear what event you want to host and how I can help you make it meaningful and memorable.
