Felicity Stone
Teacher, Journalist, and Writer in Toronto
Felicity Stone is a South African born teacher, journalist, and writer. She writes predominantly about medical and human-interest issues. She has recently completed a non-fiction book – Maggie Mom Me : A South African Memoir - about growing up under apartheid.
With a career spanning over 25 years, her stories have been published in leading publications including the Toronto Star, National Post, Today’s Parent, The Ryerson Review of Journalism, HealthDay News (a syndicate of the New York Times) and many others.
After earning her teaching degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, she immigrated to Toronto where she studied journalism at Ryerson University. She then attained an MFA in Creative Writing from the Stonecoast program at the University of Southern Maine.
Felicity believes in the power of words and their ability to transform those who create the stories as well the people who read them.
Words can be transcendent and shift perceptions. They can humble, inspire, and heal.
With that in mind, she has dedicated her volunteer efforts to facilitating writing workshops for underserved and underprivileged populations, including inmates, patients in addiction and recovery centers, the transgender community and at-risk youth.
