Felipe Massami Maruyama
São Paulo
My name is Felipe Massami Maruyama and I have been living off
design since I was 14 years old as this is when I entered a Graphic
Design technical course at ETE-Carlos Campos. This experience
was essential for me as it allowed for me to start wandering within
and exploring the vast field of design. Upon this experience, I did a
year-long Design course at UNESP-Bauru. This was a course which
allowed for me to experience what it meant to put an emphasis on
experimental and authorial work. I returned to São Paulo and joined
the design course of the College of Architecture and Urbanism -
FAU - in 2009. At FAU I was able to increase my repertoire and see
how design is an area that has great potential as well as the ability
to serve as a mediator between different areas and also promote
reflection on topics such as social equity, new models and syste-
ms, society and sustainability through the use of varied interfaces
whether using graphic , audiovisual, product and/or service design.
From the start, I got involved in several extracurricular projects with
other students who, like me, valued and, in some way, contributed
to the academic development through complementary activities
outside of the classroom.
Thanks to this, I ended up helping to organize some events such
as the 2nd FAU design show, which aimed to show people the
production resulting from the course up until that time (2010). Fur-
ther we put up a Barhaus, a round table bringing together various
designers so as to share and exchange on their experiences.
Throughout these years, I happily also managed to get awards in
various competitions promoted regionally, nationally and interna-
tionally. Among these contests: Valo do Aço, Minas Gerais theme:
Bossa Nova – 2008 Valo do Aço, Minas Gerais Theme Carmen
Miranda - 2009; Awarded with honours in the poster contest for
FAU Design Shows in 2010; Awarded first place in the poster con-
test commemorating 20 years of Integra Colleges Teresa of Avila
- 2010; Selected for the “SUSTAINABILITY: AND I WITH IT “ show
within the 3rd Biennial of Design in Curitiba through a competition;
Selected among the 300 best posters in the international compe-
tition Poster for Tomorrow; Two of my posters were selected, along
with 20 others, as being the highlights of
